Job Description :

This position offers an opportunity to teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students in grades 6 through 12 within a high school setting. The role is based in the Syracuse, NY area and involves working with a diverse student population, including those with autism who are emergent communicators. The caseload is capped at 20 students, allowing for focused and impactful instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans tailored to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, with additional support for students on the autism spectrum.
  • Deliver instruction and support to students in grades 6-12, fostering communication and academic growth.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to adapt curriculum materials and communication strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methodologies to meet evolving needs.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and development.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education.
  • Experience teaching middle and high school students, preferably with exposure to students with autism and emergent communication skills.
  • Strong communication abilities, including proficiency in relevant sign language methods.
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively, maintaining individualized attention.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive educational practices and working collaboratively within a school community.

Location:

  • Syracuse, NY area (high school setting).

This position is a contract role for the new school year, offering an engaging and meaningful teaching experience with opportunities to make a significant difference in students lives.
