The Executive Director of Hospice is accountable for the day to day operations of the organization, ensuring the availability of the Administrator or a clinical manager during all operating hours, maintaining an ongoing link among the governing body, group of professional personnel and staff, development of staff qualifications and policies and ensuring that staff employed by the organization are qualified. The Executive Director/Administrator is responsible for strategic development and oversight of care and services provided by Hospice inpatient facilities and the Home Hospice program. As such, the Executive Director of Hospice must align the goals and objectives of Hospice in conjunction with the Wellstar Health System. This position is appointed by and reports directly to the Wellstar Health System governing body.
Core Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsSuccessful Growth: a. Responsible for the Hospice strategic plan and marketing plan to align with systems goals and needs. b. Monitors health system needs and current industry trends to ensure alignment of plans with market demands. Closes service gaps. c. Researches, recommends and implements approved new Hospice programs or services. d. Increases market share in the system service area. e. Serves as primary liaison with other system departments. f. Participates in system committees. g. Remains current with the strategies of competitors and ensures Hospice remains on the cutting edge h. Monitors referral source activity monthly and coordinates with Medical Director of Palliative Medicine to develop specific physician action plans i. Serves as the liaison with the community and makes presentations to promote Hospice. j. Responsible for securing contracts with partner nursing homes as well as Assisted Living Facilities. k. Responsible for further integration of Hospice into the WellStar Health System. Customer Service: a. Ensures the patients and families in Hospice receive a superior patient experience. b. Responsible for oversight of the Hospice FEHS surveys results. c. Creates quality improvement teams with the Director of Clinical Services to address opportunities for improvement. d. Achieves and maintains Hospice results at or above approved benchmarks. e. Ensures the referring physicians and other customers from within or outside the WellStar Health System receive a superior experience Financial: a. Manages the financial, capital, and operational resources of the Hospice agency. b. Develops annual budget and five-year capital plan. Monitors operating revenue and expenses, establishing and maintaining cost control programs. c. Assists the Director of Clinical Services and managers monthly with developing corrective action for budget variances. d. Has overall accountability for staffing levels, structure and skill mix. e. Implements new or revises current programs and or services to achieve the financial program targets. People Management: a. Responsible to ensure alignment and consistency between strategic goals, human resource management and resource alignment. b. Interviews, hires new staff as appropriate, and is accountable for department retention and turnover. c. Creates a work environment that fosters trust and is a model for a Great Place To Work. d. Completes performance reviews for direct reports and provides input to evaluation of staff reporting to director/managers/supervisors. e. Reviews recommendations for corrective action or discharge as appropriate and coordinates with Director of Clinical Services and Human Resources. Assists managers/supervisors in f. resolving complex employee relations problems and assisting with the development of performance improvement plans. Clinical Quality: a. Ensures the services and programs provided by the Hospice are of the highest quality standards by working closely with the Palliative Medicine Group and Director of Clinical Services. b. Responsible to identify and achieve established benchmarked quality measures. c. Accountable for entire Hospice survey readiness. d. Maintains regulatory compliance and ensures services comply with federal, state, and regulatory standards by working closely with the Quality / PI Coordinator and the Director of Clinical Services. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum EducationMaster's Degree is required.
Required Minimum ExperienceMinimum 5 years experience in a leadership role within a healthcare organization is required. Hospice experience is strongly preferred.
