Valve & pump repair, inspect the various well locations, and ensure safety compliance.Join the City of Savannah's Utilities team and play a vital role in keeping our community's water systems safe, reliable, and running smoothly. In this leadership position, you will oversee and participate in essential maintenance and repairs to pumps, valves, and equipment at multiple well locations. You'll ensure work is completed to the highest standards of safety and quality while mentoring staff, coordinating emergency repairs, and collaborating with contractors and other utility partners.   • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Coordinates work with contractors and other utility providers.
  • Performs job-site inspections to investigate damage and conclude the repair assignment, including the mitigation of overflows.
  • Coordinates emergency repairs.
  • Schedules for repair and maintenance on emergency bypass pumps and air compressors
  • Completes and submits weekly timesheets; fills out leave, compensation,return-to-duty, overtime, and other personnel-related documents.
  • Trains personnel into tools and techniques.
  • Maintains professional certifications and attends training.
  • Completes accident and injury forms.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent plus four (4) years of experience in utilities, water/wastewater, industrial maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving historyRequires the following certification/license(s) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment:Georgia Wastewater Operator Class IIIWork Location: 208 Agonic RoadWork Hours: 7 am-3:30 pm, Monday-Friday, rotating weekendsAdditionalRequirementsBackground investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.Additional Information

MinimumStandardsSUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.GUIDELINES: Guidelines include plant operation guidelines; local, state,; environmental regulations; city policies and procedures; and safety policies and practices. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied administrative, supervisory, and technical maintenance duties. The need to perform multiple tasks at the same time contributes to the complexity of the position.SCOPE OF EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to supervise mechanical repair and maintenance activities. Successful performance in this position ensures an adequate supply of safe drinking water.PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, department heads, other city employees, elected and appointed officials, state and federal agency representatives, engineers, consultants, architects, and business owners. developers, vendors, and members of the general public.PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, motivate personnel, provide services, resolve problems, justify decisions, and negotiate and settle matters.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects. climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, at department facilities, or outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather.
