Job Description :
JOB DESCRIPTION The Student Behavior Specialist will carry an active and direct role in supporting behavioral health and well-being efforts at Kreeger Elementary School (grades 3-5). The Student Behavior Specialist will serve as a consultant for all building student behavioral needs including Tier 2 and 3 interventions Please note: The district reserves the right to interview qualified candidates as applications come in. The job can be offered to a selected, qualified applicant prior to the end of the posting period Required Qualifications/Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
    • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
    • Two (2) yeas of successful teaching experience or related field
  • Demonstration of leadership ability in past teaching, administrative assignments and/or building/district level committee work, or similar prior experience
  • Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology
  • Ability to relate positively and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and the community
Preferred Qualifications/Certifications
  • Master's Degree in School Counseling, Special Education, Curriculum, Educational Leadership, or similar field
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate in elementary education
  • Michigan Administrator's Certificate
  • 3 + years of succesful teaching experience
  • Understanding of the unique developmental, physical, and social needs of young children
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
  • Willingness to try and share new ideas, techniques, and strategies
  • Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing and/or implementing systems such as PBIS, Restorative Practices, etc.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Directly report to Principal
  • Provide interventions for behavior support including positive and proactive techniques for improving student behavior and motivation
  • Offer support for social and emotional health needs and implement PBIS and Restorative Practice initiatives
  • Organize and lead learning opportunities related to positive and healthy behaviors for students and staff
  • Contribute and support district and building initiatives, including collaboration with the Office of Academics, Director of School Security, and the Special Education Department
  • Lead and implement PBIS interventions, such as Check-In & Check-Out and Restorative Practices
  • Collaborate with teachers regarding the development and use of behavior plans, safety plans, and health plans
  • Collaborate with teachers regarding the implementation and progress of behavior plans
  • Enter behavior data, progress monitor behavior interventions, analyze behavior data, adjust behavior systems based on data, and train staff on behavior data use and behavior intervention progress monitoring
  • Support teachers and support staff with behavior management systems at all Tiers
  • Conduct parent meetings that may include teachers, support staff, and students
  • Provide leadership and support for school-wide PBIS/MTSS
  • Leading member of the multidisciplinary team for MTSS meetings, Section 504 meetings, IEP meetings as needed
  • Support implementation of universal accommodations and students in need of individual accommodations
  • Monitor student attendance, truancy, discipline, and provide support to students and parents
  • Recommend, implement, and fairly enforce building and district policies and procedures related to discipline consistent with the approved Kreeger Elementary Parent/Student Handbook (enact disciplinary code of conduct)
  • Attend meetings of the Board Discipline Committee (as needed) to provide incident summary and student discipline history for discipline hearings
  • Keep detailed documentation regarding student disciplinary investigations, contacts and follows-up with parents, administration, liaison officer, teachers, ancillary and support staff regarding student discipline
  • Support building and district anti-bullying initiatives
  • Maintain confidential student files
  • Speak, hear, see, and write clearly with or without assistive device(s)
  • Walk, stand for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options
  • Adhere to all Board and District policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Supervise students for a safe and orderly environment for learning

  • Ability to apply common knowledge, understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to solve problems in a professional manner
