This posting will be used to fill a full-time, permanent, safety-sensitive Management Aide position within Police Personnel of the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Work involves para-professional administrative support. Includes providing support and assistance to management personnel and supervising lower-level office support employees. Most personal contacts are with employees in the same or other departments and agencies of the County government, State and Federal agencies, and non-profit and private sector organizations. The purpose of the contacts are to coordinate or carry out program assignments in a cooperative nature towards mutual goals. Some employees in this class of work meet with the public to assist in providing direct public assistance. NATURE OF AND VARIETY OF WORK A distinguishing characteristic of this class is that an employee in this class utilizes knowledge of subject-matter administrative areas or program functions, or regulations and procedures in carrying out a variety of related support activities in one or more programs. Assignments involve the use of office automation equipment and appropriate software applications. The employee working in a supervisory capacity must supervise at least two full-time employees. If the employees supervised are part-time, seasonal, or temporary, the number of employees supervised may be determined by calculating full-time equivalent positions. The employee independently plans and carries out work, obtains necessary data or information, and selects appropriate methods and procedures to accomplish work. Problems encountered in carrying out assignments are resolved in accordance with office policies and accepted practices. The employee uses judgment in locating, selecting, and applying guidelines, references, and procedures to fit specific situations and exercises resourcefulness in adapting operating procedures to accommodate changes or special conditions. The work involves a range of repetitive issues requiring the employee to identify and analyze a variety of conditions and factors that impact the accuracy, reliability, or acceptability of further program processes or program activities. Compiles, organizes, and/or reconciles and analyzes data from various sources to maintain a variety of reports or databases on program services and activities; prepares reports of varying dimensions and complexity and maintains statistics and/or databases on information relating to program services, activities, or participants; creates and maintains files and records in support of the program. Analyzes, evaluates, and makes recommendations intended to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of programs. Performs data entry and uses computer and applicable software applications to prepare records, documents, notices, reports, tables, and correspondence. Performs administrative tasks to facilitate the operation to include database applications, reviewing documentation for accuracy/completeness and preparing correspondence. Provides administrative and technical staff support to boards and committees, applicants, and other agencies, and responds to inquiries from the general public to define, interpret, and/or explain regulations and requirements. Tracks and/or monitors the status of a client population in support of program activities. Reviews work of supervised lower-level office support employees or employees determined by calculating full-time equivalent positions. Establishes and maintains files and records in support of the program. Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the program area associated with the department/agency to which the position is assigned. Knowledge of County policies and procedures, supervisory principles and practices, and office methods and procedures. Ability to operate computers and applicable software; automated office equipment and other related equipment necessary to efficiently accomplish work. Ability to obtain the necessary data and information needed to accomplish required work assignments; analyze data from various sources to compile reports and other work products; prepare reports; and maintain accurate filing/records systems. Ability to supervise the work of assigned office support staff and maintain effective working relationships with others. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION: Completion of an associate degree from an accredited college EXPERIENCE: Two (2) or more years of paraprofessional experience in supporting a personnel/human resources section NOTE: Completion of an associate degree from an accredited college may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for a total of four (4) or more years of paraprofessional experience in supporting a personnel/human resources section. NOTE: Accredited University or College is the recognition from an accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards. The U.S. Department of Education maintains a database of accrediting agencies it recognizes for schools within the United States. For a University or College outside the United States, the applicant must provide documentation of accreditation and educational equivalency, which can be accomplished through a credential evaluation service.
