Position Summary:

We're seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Claims Manager to lead our workers' compensation and liability claims operations. In this role, you will oversee the full lifecycle of transportation-related claims, ensuring effective resolution, compliance with regulations, and alignment with corporate risk management goals. This position plays a critical role in protecting the company's financial health and supporting our drivers, teams, and partners.
Who This Role Reports To:
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Safety. The Senior Claims Manager will work closely with key leaders across Safety, Finance, HR, Operations, Legal, and external partners to drive continuous improvement in claims outcomes.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the adjudication of workers' compensation and liability claims, including incidents involving commercial vehicle accidents, occupational injuries, and third-party property damage.
- Supervise, coach, and eventually develop a high-performing team of claims professionals, ensuring consistency in best practices and claims strategy.
- Structure claims operations to support the scale and scope of Jones Logistics' transportation network, including fleet, drivers, and terminals.
- Establish and track performance metrics aligned to operational priorities like claims cost reduction, incident response time, and loss ratio improvement.
- Implement and manage company-specific claims policies, in compliance with state/federal regulations (DOT, OSHA, FMCSA) and insurance carrier guidelines.
- Lead quarterly file reviews and monthly trend analyses to identify systemic risks or process gaps; deliver actionable insights to executive leadership.
- Act as the point of contact for large losses and complex claims, ensuring proper reserving, litigation strategy, and executive communication.
- Review and approve vendor invoices and third-party services related to medical management, legal defense, surveillance, and claim audits.
- Oversee annual insurance audits and contribute to risk financing strategy and insurance renewals.
- Foster strong relationships with TPAs, brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders to ensure claim efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in workers' compensation and/or liability claims, ideally within the transportation or logistics industry.
- 5+ years of experience leading claims teams or managing TPAs.
- In-depth understanding of transportation-related risk exposures, claims litigation, and jurisdictional nuances across multiple states.
- Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state workers' compensation laws.
- Strong command of claims analytics, financial impact, and reserve strategy.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with claims or risk management platforms (e.g., Origami, Riskonnect) is a plus.
- Industry certifications (AIC, ARM, CPCU, WCCA/WCCP) strongly preferred.
