Job Description :

The Special Assets Officer will work with the Special Assets Manager to assess risk in a distressed loan relationship. This person will be expected to determine critical issues on a case by case basis, create a plan to address said issues, and monitor the plan to mitigate any loss exposure. This person will assist in assigning relationships to the Special Assets staff. This will also include assigning property inspections and other forms of collateral, monitoring performance of negotiated settlements, initiating litigation when necessary, and oversight of the marketing of bank owned assets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Special Assets Manager with the management of all areas of the Special Assets Department including production of all internal reports, monitor the management and performance of the entire Special Assets portfolio, and interact with the lending staff to insure compliance with Special Assets policy and procedures.
  • Perform the initial assessment of new relationships assigned to Special Assets.
  • Possess the ability to determine next steps for the Special Assets staff to execute when dealing with distressed relationships.
  • Manage a portfolio of larger complex distressed loan relationships.
  • Compliance with any and all BSA/AML/CFT and Sanctions requirements set forth by Bank Policy and Procedure, including but not limited to timely completion of assigned training.
  • SECONDARY DUTIES

    When necessary, act as a witness and in support of the Special Assets Manager in negotiation and implementation of forbearance and settlement agreements.

    On rare occasions, be available after hours and on weekends to support the efforts of the Special Assets Manager.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    This position will have oversight responsibility within the Special Assets Department.

    ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

    The incumbent is in a non-confined office setting in which they are free to move about at will. In the course of performing the duties and responsibilities of this position spends time writing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 25 pounds), sitting, typing on a computer keyboard, and standing, kneeling and reaching.

    The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, copy and fax machine, adding machine, computer and related printers.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    These specifications are guidelines based on the minimum experience required to perform the essential functions of the job. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines:

    • Bachelor's degree or 10 years of related experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Work-related experience must consist of Commercial Lending or Special Assets experience. Educational experience, through formal school or financial industry related curriculum, is required to be applicable to the financial industry.
