Job Title: General Manager – Hydraulic Distribution

Location: Minneapolis, MN (On-site)

Industry: Industrial Equipment / Hydraulic Systems

Reports To: President / CEO

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our hydraulic distribution business operations based in the Minneapolis area. The GM will be responsible for driving sales, optimizing operational efficiency, managing staff, and ensuring customer satisfaction. This leadership role requires strong knowledge of the hydraulic equipment and fluid power industry, along with excellent business acumen and team management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Operations

  • Develop and implement business strategies to achieve growth and profitability targets.
  • Oversee daily operations including sales, distribution, procurement, service, inventory, and logistics.
  • Set KPIs and manage performance metrics for departments and staff.
  • Monitor P&L performance and drive cost control initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Sales & Business Development

  • Lead the sales team to increase market share and develop new customer relationships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and vendors.
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to execute go-to-market strategies and promotions.
  • Identify new markets and potential product lines to expand the business.

Team Management

  • Recruit, train, and mentor staff across departments (sales, warehouse, service, admin).
  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide development plans.

Customer & Vendor Relations

  • Ensure a high standard of customer service and technical support.
  • Manage vendor partnerships and negotiate favorable terms and pricing.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Industrial Distribution, or related field (MBA is a plus).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in industrial distribution or hydraulic systems, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
  • Proven track record of P&L management and operational leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic products, systems, and applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel regionally as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with OEMs and MRO clients in industrial or construction sectors.
  • Understanding of lean principles and inventory optimization strategies.
  • Familiarity with fluid power certifications (e.g., IFPS).
