Senior Manager, Global Sustainability

Location: Long Island City, NY, Greenville, SC or Lewisville, TX

Reporting to: Chief Accounting Officer

Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts utilized in the maintenance, repair, and service of vehicles in the automotive aftermarket. Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products in diversified end markets represented by its Engineered Solutions segment.

Globally, SMP employs over 6,000 employees across nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and engineering facilities and offices located in North America, Europe and Asia. SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.

As our Senior Manager of Global Sustainability, you will lead the integration of impactful strategies that advance ESG goals, build stakeholder trust, and foster innovation. This high-visibility role offers the opportunity to shape a evolving function and make an immediate impact within a dynamic organization.

Work Model: Hybrid — in-office three days per week (Mondays, Thursdays, and one additional day), remote two days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead ESG and sustainability data collection and validation in collaboration with cross-functional teams (finance/accounting, internal audit, legal, operations).
  • Define data ownership, enhance data quality, resolve inconsistencies, and drive alignment on reporting expectations to ensure timely, accurate delivery.
  • Calculate Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions and manage data using carbon accounting software.
  • Support the transition to new software tools and continuously evaluate processes for efficiency, scalability, and automation.
  • Design and implement internal controls in partnership with internal audit and other stakeholders.
  • Develop meaningful internal metrics and KPIs, including executive dashboards.
  • Identify and recommend strategies to reduce GHG emissions and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Collaborate with legal, marketing, and investor relations on sustainability reporting, disclosures, and regulatory filings.
  • Respond to ESG inquiries from customers with support from a shared resource.
  • Stay current on evolving ESG frameworks and regulatory developments to ensure compliance and readiness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, MIS, Data Science, Sustainability, or related field—or equivalent experience in environmental leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in advancing sustainability initiatives and ESG strategy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and geographies.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience leading diverse teams to achieve goals.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong analytical, research, and organizational capabilities, and keen attention to detail.
  • Deep understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in process improvement.
  • Experience with ESG software and reporting tools, including Workiva.
  • Expertise in managing GHG inventory data and identifying reduction opportunities as well as other environmental risks/impacts.

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

The estimated salary range for this position in New York is $150,000-215,000.
