Job Summary

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides compassionate care to patients throughout their scheduled shifts. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the PCA offers patient-centered nursing care and assistance with daily living activities including bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, and meal preparation. Additionally, the PCA addresses emotional and spiritual needs, administers delegated tasks and treatments, and records vital statistics and health information.

The PCA will:

• Collect non-invasive biological specimens as necessary.
• Perform relevant clerical tasks related to scheduling and documenting patient healthcare.
• Prepare patient treatment areas and clean medical equipment.
• Dispose of biomedical waste according to established standards and policies.
• Maintain cleanliness in patient living areas or treatment rooms.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a basic understanding of patient care principles, medical terminology, and equipment relevant to the assigned service area. Certification and registration with the Minnesota Board of Nursing Assistant Registry is preferred, and required if designated by law (i.e., Home Care).
