GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Grants Accountant assists with college-wide grant efforts, specifically the financial and compliance aspects of grant management, as well as financial management of donor-funded initiatives and other special projects. This position helps with pre-award budget planning and development, and post-award ensures all financial compliance with internal policy and external regulations.DUTIES:
  • Analyze Grant and Donor Funding Opportunities
    • Assess viability and accuracy of the budget(s) for grant pursuits and proposal efforts.
    • Interpret and advise faculty and staff of financial guidelines, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and to create highly competitive proposals and applications.
  • Advise and Participate in Grant and Donor-Funded Proposal Development
    • Lead project budget preparation with internal stakeholders ensuring grant applications meet grantors' guidelines, requirements, and regulations as well as aligns with the college's financial capacity and budget planning.
    • Analyze and evaluate grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories such as salaries, percent of effort, salary adjustments, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials, equipment.
  • Manage Financial Reporting, Tracking, and Compliance for Grants, Donor-Funded Initiatives, and Special Projects
    • Perform day-to-day grant and restricted fund accounting, including journal entries, budget tracking, and reconciliation, includes draw down of funds if needed.
    • Monitor grant spending for compliance and accuracy across multiple funding sources.
    • Maintain updated inception-to-date grant reports and support ad hoc financial analysis.
    • Maintain accurate records of grant submissions, progress, and financial reporting.
  • Participate Cross-Functionally with Internal Stakeholders
    • Collaborate with the NCMC Foundation and various departments (e.g., IT, Institutional Research) to facilitate processes, compile financial data, and measure outcomes.
    • Work closely with project teams to ensure effective grant financial management and compliance.
  • Cross train with other business office staff as needed to support other general accounting functions.
  • Assist with documentation, audit preparation, and federal/state grant reporting
  • Attend and participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Service on committee(s) related to duties.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (in a relevant field such as finance, business, or accounting, or related) AND four years proven experience in fund accounting, or equivalent.
  • Strong fund accounting and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Passionate about securing funding for educational initiatives that advances the mission and vision of the College.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, education, project management or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience managing grant proposals or work with intricate technical documents; preferably within an educational institution or non-profit organization.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience creating and delivering professional training.
  • Experience preparing or processing complex financial transactions, and reports in a higher education environment.
