Position Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Talent Development Specialist responsible for leading and supporting professional development courses, classes, and programs for all employees across the CSU. This includes collaborating with stakeholders (such as HR, SMEs, workforce planning teams, and vendors) to identify organizational needs; creating and sourcing educational materials for in-person and online delivery; and supporting the delivery and evaluation of professional development programs and systemwide learning experiences. The role is key in developing CSU employees' skills and capabilities, supporting personal development, engagement, and organizational growth.

This position offers telecommuting (two days remote, three days in-office at Long Beach, California).

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Learning & Development, the Talent Development Specialist will:

  • Support talent development initiatives for CSU employees at all levels.
  • Ensure systemwide learning effectiveness through logistical support, maintaining learning materials, delivering presentations, and co-facilitating workshops.
  • Assist with CSUs supervisor training logistics to meet in-person and virtual needs.
  • Support the CSU Leadership Academy by sourcing materials, scheduling facilitators, and maintaining collaboration tools.
  • Promote cross-campus collaboration classes to maximize resources and expertise.
  • Curate curricula for targeted skill development and topical themes.
  • Research and support development of learning resources aligned with core and leadership competencies.
  • Maintain onboarding resources for accuracy and relevance.
  • Coordinate and promote development programs, maximizing CSU resources.
  • Maintain online and print learning materials for accessibility and accuracy.
  • Act as the initial contact for systemwide learning initiatives, ensuring smooth program delivery and outcomes.
  • Support dashboards and scorecards to evaluate program effectiveness and identify improvements.
  • Develop and facilitate new learning materials and programs, online and in-person.
  • Assist in identifying skills gaps and conducting needs assessments.
  • Collaborate on designing and developing new training content and programs.
  • Support and facilitate various learning experiences, including webcasts, virtual classes, and in-person training.
  • Create marketing materials to promote L&D programs.
  • Evaluate new talent development efforts through feedback and data analysis.
  • Research AI and emerging technologies for collaborative learning.
  • Promote trends in organizational development and foster innovation in learning practices.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and collaboration, enhancing employee engagement and CSUs reputation as a great workplace.
  • Support systemwide programs and platforms, acting as an ambassador for L&D services.
  • Foster communication and sharing of professional development opportunities across campuses.
  • Prepare promotional materials for initiatives and update training catalogs.
  • Help maximize cross-campus collaboration and share best practices.
  • Co-facilitate and support the CSUs professional development network and community of practice.
  • Collaborate across CSU to ensure cohesion with other talent programs and curricula.

Vendor Engagement

  • Support hiring and scheduling of learning facilitators for virtual and in-person training.
  • Assist in preparing RFPs for learning services, including requirements and evaluation criteria.
  • Review vendor deliverables to ensure quality and suitability.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Assist Labor Relations with LMS course content, assignments, and reporting.
  • Support negotiations and compliance training reviews with unions.

Qualifications

This position requires:

  • Bachelors degree in education, communication, human resources, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least three years of experience in training or a related field, preferably in higher education.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design.
  • Experience with learning development and collaboration tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Captivate, MS Teams, Photoshop, Smartsheets, Zoom).
  • Proven ability to use AI as a support tool for tasks and learning.
  • Understanding of usability and web accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508, UDL).
  • Knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Ability to speak on camera or microphone spontaneously.
  • Customer service orientation and effective teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating classes.
  • Familiarity with psychometric tools like Emergenetics, Strengths, True Colors.
  • Experience measuring training outcomes.
  • Experience working in a university environment.
