The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. The RRT works under the supervision of a physician and provides respiratory therapy to patients in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. The role includes administering treatments, managing ventilators, monitoring patient progress, and educating patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess patients with respiratory conditions and recommend appropriate therapy.
• Administer respiratory treatments, including nebulizer therapy, oxygen therapy, chest physiotherapy, and aerosol medications.
• Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation and other life support equipment.
• Monitor patient responses and make recommendations for changes in therapy.
• Perform diagnostic tests such as arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and oximetry.
• Document all treatments and patient progress in electronic medical records.
• Provide patient and family education on managing respiratory conditions at home.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment.
• Respond to emergency situations including Code Blue and Rapid Response calls

Registration as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), Valid license to practice as Respiratory Therapist issued by NYSED, BLS, Primary Source Verification required.
