Duties: Under general supervision, assigns, supervises and reviews work of Engineering Draftsmen. Administers computer aided drafting and design (CADD) systems, operates their control programs, manages related digital information, and provides for systematic archiving of all CADD work products. Reviews CADD system performance to maximize its operational availability and to improve its operating efficiency. Develops, updates, and enforces CADD standards.

Salary/Pay PlansThe salary listed above is Step 1 in a structured pay plan. At 6 months of employment with the District, the salary will increase to Step 2: $110,219.98. At 18 months, the salary will increase to Step 3: $116,656.54. There are 9 total steps for TAM 16 of the pay plan (view full pay plan). These increases are based on service time in the job classification and require a 'Meets Standard' performance rating.

Original Entrance - Examination

Minimum Requirements: Possession of an associate degree in computer aided drafting and design (CADD) in the Architectural/Engineering/Construction (AEC) discipline and five years of CADD experience in support of professional architects or engineers, including one year of experience in the administration of computer aided drafting and design (CADD) systems. Substitution: Additional experience in the use and administration of CADD systems may be substituted for the required education to a maximum of two years. Additional coursework from an accredited four-year college or university majoring in engineering, computer science or a closely related field may be substituted for the required non-administrative experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Examination: The examination will consist of a written test and a performance test weighted 100%. The minimum passing score for the examination will be 70% unless determined otherwise by the Director of Human Resources. Candidates must achieve a passing score to have their names placed on the eligible list.

The written test will assess candidates' knowledge, skill and ability in areas such as the principles, practices, and techniques of engineering drafting and computer aided drafting and design (2D and 3D); AutoDesk software suite; CADD administration and support; CAD applications; and written communication.

The performance test will assess candidates in the area such as those described above as well as the ability to use computer-aided design software (AutoCAD).

Examination Process: All applicants will be advised by email if they have been admitted to the examination process. Applicants who do not receive a response to their application by end of day, Friday, August 1, 2025, should contact the Employee Selection Office at (312) ###-####.

The examination is tentatively scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, or Saturday, August 16, 2025, or any other dates necessary to accommodate the number of candidates. Candidates will be informed by email of the exact date, time and place of the exam.

The use of books, study guides, cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, laptops or other aids during the test is prohibited.

Original Entrance - AppointmentsAppointments will be made from an eligible list with three categories: A (Exceptionally Well Qualified), B (Well Qualified) and C (Qualified). Candidates in the highest category will be given first consideration for appointment. This examination is also being given on a Promotional basis. In instances where both Original Entrance and Promotional eligible lists result from an examination process, it is the District's practice to appoint only from the Promotional eligible list until all names from that list have been considered. The eligible list has a duration of three years. Appointment is subject to successfully passing a physical examination, a drug test and a criminal history background investigation.
