Telematics Coordinator

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of telematics installations with agency customers.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and tracking telematics system and device issues. Coordinate with agency contacts and Samsara to resolve issues timely.
  • Serve as the liaison between executive agencies and the telematics vendor (Samsara) and provide user training as needed.
  • Create and maintain a tracker to identify updates and progress involving the telematics system.
  • Obtain and develop information to plan, prepare and justify proposed and projected expenditures regarding agency vehicle and AMS acquisitions.
  • Assist agencies with the vehicle lifecycle.
  • Supervise subordinate staff, interns, and contract workers.
  • Collect, prepare, and control disposition of outgoing written communication.
  • Respond to customer agency information requests, control agency inquiries and constituent questions, comments, and complaints.
  • Analyze and oversee data gathered from files, systems, and other documents for required reporting.
  • Manage and coordinate working groups, fleet forums and training programs to educate and promote fleet policies across state agencies.
  • Disseminate statewide fleet announcements, memos, procedural guidance, and manuals.
  • Provide administrative support to Director and Fleet Manager.
  • Develop effective, standard templates to be used across all fleet units and assisting agencies with internal fleet guidance and materials.
  • Monitor utilization and make-up of agency fleets to ensure compliance with policies and procedures as well as statewide mandates and goals.

Operational Needs:

  • Travel required (approximately 30%).
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid NYS Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:

This title includes a traineeship opportunity and applicants will be appointed to the appropriate level** based on their experience and education.

Required experience: professional experience providing administrative and staff support to executives, program managers and staff, boards, or commissions by overseeing budget, human resources, and business services activities for an organization or program. Master's and higher-level degrees will substitute for one year of required experience.

**Administrative Specialist level requirements:

  • Administrative Specialist Trainee 1 (equated to SG-14): bachelor or higher degree.
  • Administrative Specialist Trainee 2 (equated to SG-16): bachelor or higher degree and one year of required experience.
  • Administrative Specialist 1, SG-18: bachelor or higher degree and two years of required experience.

Applicants may also be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 11 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Successful completion of a two-year traineeship leads to appointment as an Administrative Specialist 1, SG-18.

NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.

*There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
