Job Title: Surgical Technologist Department: OR - Cardiac Surgery Location: Rochester General Hospital Hours Per Week: Full Time (40 hours per week) Schedule: Mon-Fri, day/evening *24/7 on call*

SUMMARY:

Join our dynamic surgical team as an OR Surgical Technologist, where your expertise is vital to the efficiency of surgical operations. In this role, you will be the primary scrub tech, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgeries, ensuring the highest standards of sterilization throughout the process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a minimum of 15 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) annually.
  • Check supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for surgical procedures, ensuring proper operation.
  • Establish a sterile field for surgical procedures and assist the surgical team in maintaining proper attire and patient draping.
  • Utilize aseptic techniques and inform the surgical team of any infractions to maintain the sterile field.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon effectively and efficiently.
  • Perform counts of sponges and sharps with the RN before surgery starts and before the incision is closed.
  • Prepare sterile dressings for patient incisions.
  • Ensure operating rooms are well-stocked and assist with medications, sharps, and syringes as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a military surgical technology program or certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTS), along with a degree in Surgical Technology.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist required within 24 months of employment.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with active licensure in New York State are exempt from the Surgical Technologist Certification requirement.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. This role requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $27.50 - $33.50

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of potential base pay for a successful full-time applicant. This may be adjusted in the future and is eligible for additional pay components. Pay rates are determined based on factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
