Position Summary Maintains, updates, creates and modifies GIS maps and data to maintain critical access to information regarding but not limited to planning, water, sanitation, streets and roads, land use, land ownership, and natural resources.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Maintains, updates, creates and modifies GIS maps and data to maintain critical access to information regarding but not limited to planning, water, sanitation streets and roads, land use, land ownership, and natural resources.
  • Creates and documents GIS processes and procedures.
  • Discovers, analyzes, digitizes, and archives historic documentation and maps as necessary.
  • Responsible for creating, developing and maintaining GIS databases, performing data creation, and cartography using ArcGIX.
  • Processes, analyzes and catalogs recorded plats and surveys; uses georeferencing and other spatial tools to update and improve the accuracy of County GIS data.
  • Collaborates with external agencies and departments on special projects, report preparations and GIS presentations.
  • Receives direction from Community Planning & Development leadership to pursue organizational priorities and goals.
  • Creates maps and mapping tools to help staff and the public interpret and visualize spatial data.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the geographic information systems field for application to responsibilities under charge.
  • Assist in the management and coordination of drone related projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities Not Applicable

Notice of Emergency/Disaster Responsibilities All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, a related field with a specialty in GIS; or a GIS certificate program from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience working in a related field.
  • Already have or can obtain a drone license.
  • Travel to conferences or events within and outside of the state of Colorado may be required.
  • Proficiency in English, and Spanish preferred.

Physical Activity & Work Environment

  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to see close up and far away, with or without glasses or contacts.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement, hot, or cold weather as required by attendance of County events or local emergencies.
