Greenwood School District 50Position DescriptionJOB TITLE: Bus MonitorDEPARTMENT: TransportationREPORTS TO: Director of TransportationSUMMARY: Supervises students while the driver transports students. Punctual and regular attendance is an expectation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Reports to the Bus Driver while on the bus;
- Responsible for ensuring passengers observe all safety regulations for school buses;
- Maintains discipline on the bus;
- Assists driver in keeping the bus clean;
- Must be attentive to the surroundings and completely aware of what students are doing;
- Provides appropriate assistance to special needs students as required;
- Makes trip enjoyable for students through educational programs involving group participation;
- Maintains communication with parents;
- Coordinates special needs of each child with parents, driver, and teachers;
- Enforces regulations against tobacco usage and eating on the bus;
- Assists substitute driver in running the route properly;
- Never touch a child unless you are assisting with the child's care;
- Sit behind the last child or in the middle of a loaded bus;
- Must be polite and professional when dealing with any situation;
- Assists driver when making a turn-around;
- Attend all Safety Meetings;
- Stay awake and alert at all times;
- Complies with discipline polices set forth by Greenwood School District 50;
- Participates in on-site training
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is needed
- Able to pass drug test and TB test
- Satisfactory SLED background check
OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES
- Work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students
- Read and understand maps
- Communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
- Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision

- will work in an environment that is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard
