JOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 05/29/2025 POSTING NUMBER: 00007112 LOCATION: Safety/Security&Transport POSITION TITLE: Hall MonitorJob DescriptionPRIMARY PURPOSEAssist in the provision of safety and protection of all students, staff and property of the McKinney ISD by monitoring and communicating campus activity to the administration and/or campus-based School Resource Officers.Essential FunctionsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESStudent Management

  • Assist administration in maintaining an effective operation by monitoring the halls and surrounding school premises.
  • Monitor and report student behavior and student conduct in relation to the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Report conflict or confrontation between students and disturbances to the Principal/Assistant Principal or School Resource Officer.
  • Record data for supervisory staff, such as student conflicts or unusual occurrences.
  • Report tardiness, truancies, and other related incidents to the appropriate school administrator.
  • Assist with basic questions about the location of classrooms/offices in the building.
  • Check for students' hall passes and tardy slips.
  • Escort students to the principal, assistant principal, counselor, school resource officer or nurse. Hall monitors shall not participate in time-out or retain any student in isolation, in a one-on-one scenario.
Campus Safety
  • Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, security doors left unlocked, and any unusual activity.
  • Maintain security of all exterior doors.
  • Direct authorized visitors to their proper destination; report and monitor unauthorized visitors.
Other Duties
  • Work cooperatively with office personnel to inform students of problems with vehicles (i.e., improperly parked, lights on, etc.).
  • Assist law enforcement personnel as directed by school resource officer.
  • Attempt to first notify a campus administrator or school resource officer of any situation requiring immediate attention. If unable to contact a campus administrator or school resource officer, then notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention.
  • Assist with traffic safety, including student arrival and departure.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be designed by the school principal or designee.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNoneHall monitors are not to assume administrative responsibilities such as the dispensation of disciplinary consequences or assume direct responsibility for, or supervision of, students in violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Hall monitors are not to assume the role or duties of police or security officers.WORKING CONDITIONSTools/Equipment Used: Two-way radio and standard office equipment including computer and peripheralsPosture: Prolonged standing; continuous walkingMotion: Strenuous walking and climbing stairs; occasional keyboarding and use of mouseLifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 60 pounds)Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); moderate exposure to noise and vehicle exhaust; exposure to dust, slippery or uneven walking surfaces.Communications: Will communicate with supervisors and building administrator only, as confidentiality is critical.
