This position leads the Security Division within the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM). The Campus Security Chief reports to the Director of OHSEM.
The duties listed are illustrative and not comprehensive of all tasks performed by this role.
Responsibilities include:
Leading and managing security operationsDeveloping and implementing policies, procedures, work orders, and rulesEstablishing reporting and work routines for staffAssessing security needs within County buildings and providing leadership to resolve issuesAnalyzing problems, identifying solutions, projecting consequences, and implementing security strategiesPreparing staffing schedulesConducting inspections of security officers' performanceDeveloping and presenting training and testing materialsRecommending hires and promotions, and evaluating employment decisionsReviewing security incident reportsConducting campus investigations and taking appropriate actionAssisting departments with internal investigationsRecommending program and equipment needsNegotiating and administering security-related contractsManaging County-wide access control and video recording systemsPreparing estimates and reportsOperating and maintaining security systemsManaging keys, badges, and access cardsMaintaining security operation supplies and equipmentCoordinating security for events and requestsDeveloping Incident Action PlansServing on the Emergency Operations Team as neededPreparing administrative reports, proposals, budgets, and work plansMaintaining confidentiality of documents and informationBuilding relationships with law enforcement and sharing informationCollaborating with public safety stakeholdersNon-essential duties include:

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises personnel within the area of responsibility.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Security Management, or related fields
- Eight years of security, law enforcement, or military experience in a multi-functional environment
- Five years of supervisory experience in similar settings
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Valid Illinois Driver's License and Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card required at hire and maintained throughout employment
Pre-employment background check and writing exercise required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects or persons.
Work Environment:
Frequent work in extreme outdoor weather conditions.
