Outdoor Adventures Lead Facilitator
The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking an Outdoor Adventures Lead Facilitator. This Tier 2 leadership position is for experienced facilitators responsible for providing high-quality outdoor and adventure experiences for individuals and groups within the Penn State community and beyond.
Primary responsibilities include leading a team of part-time staff to deliver excellent customer service, implementing risk management policies, and overseeing daily operations of programs and facilities. These may include group-based teambuilding (indoor & outdoor), climbing facilities, Stone Valley Recreation Area activities (boat rentals, outdoor climbing structures, facility rentals, general recreation), outdoor trip leading, and the Outdoor Adventures Rental Center. The role may involve driving university vehicles and trailers.
Ideal candidates will have at least one semester of outdoor leadership experience (preferably in Campus Recreation). Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development, possess knowledge of Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures programs, services, and facilities, and be able to work effectively in dynamic and challenging environments. All Lead Facilitators will receive Youth Worker and Peer-to-Peer Leadership training, with additional training for specific roles. Lead Facilitators are expected to work a minimum of 1-2 afternoons/evenings per week and 5-6 weekends per semester, with programs and facilities possibly requiring overnight shifts. A minimum of 12-15 hours per week is expected, with potential to work up to 24 hours. Attendance at mandatory staff development workshops and trainings (Monday nights, 6-8 pm) is required.
Campus Recreation, part of Student Affairs, offers fitness, wellness, and recreational programs through facilities including the Intramural Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, and more.
