Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Engineering is seeking a highly skilled individual to work as a Project Engineer in the Facilities Management & Campus Services Department of Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). The individual will work under the AVP to supervise and coordinate all aspects of State of Good Repair infrastructure renovation projects, including major mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building management systems, and other infrastructure upgrades. The selected candidate will coordinate a complex team of professional consultants and collaborate with CUIMC Facilities Operations, Public Safety, Radiation Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Data/Telephone, and Space Planning to manage project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Prepare standard Columbia University contracts for architectural, engineering, and construction services.
- Coordinate on-site activities of general contractors and/or construction managers.
- Prepare requisitions, purchase orders, and process invoices for payment.
- Oversee the preparation of bid documents and manage the bidding process following University policies.
- Develop and manage budgets and schedules for all project phases, including design, construction, relocations, furniture procurement & installation, and move-ins.
- Create a record-keeping system for all project-related documents.
- Review infrastructure/MEP drawings and specifications, providing technical oversight.
- Manage all aspects of project scoping, budgeting, programming, compliance, design, construction, start-up, commissioning, closeout, energy management, and approvals.
- Utilize Primavera Unifier and other departmental tools for project management.
- Troubleshoot and develop cost-effective solutions for mechanical problems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of related experience or equivalent in education and experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Background in engineered building systems including HVAC, boilers, chillers, BMS, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer license.
- LEED accreditation and professional scheduling training (Primavera or Microsoft Project).
- Certified Project Manager (CPM).
Other Requirements
- Supervise and coordinate project teams and vendors to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.
- Collaborate with various campus departments to coordinate safety notices and project safety measures.
- Assist with financial planning, requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and project close-out.
- Manage worker safety and minimize impact on surrounding areas.
- Lead team members and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Review and critique MEP/Infrastructure designs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
