The Assistant Director of Student Life, in collaboration with the other members of the Student Life team, is responsible for programs and initiatives to foster community development among Cooper Union students holistically and within smaller sub-populations. This position will have key responsibilities for new student Orientation/Welcome Week and for direct support of affiliation-based clubs and organizations.

The Division of Student Affairs places the highest value on the wellbeing and work-life balance of our team. As a live-in position with on-call responsibilities, work schedule and hours will vary and are flexible. This position comes with a furnished studio apartment located in our student residence hall.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Serves a key role in building community at Cooper Union and serves as an advisor for many of the student organizations and programming groups supported by the Joint Activities Committee.• Supports students with the process of developing new student clubs and organizations.• Assist with the development and implementation of leadership and personal development programs including student organization training and retreats, which may include communication, leadership skills, conflict resolution and educating students on campus policies, risk management, budgeting, etc.• Provides oversight in the development, organization, and execution of student community building events.• Coordinate, implement, and evaluate new and existing social, cultural, academic,wellness, service, and civic engagement programs for Cooper Union students.• Assists with student-centered committees that support programs and activities including Commencement and Orientation.• Selects, trains, and supervises student Campus Orientation Leaders in support of Orientation/Welcome Week programming.• Consults and participates in other programs as assigned.

• Assures that college events, programs, and activities are effectively publicized and assessed.Live-In On Call Responsibilities• Serve as a primary-level respondent to student crises, as part of the residential life campus on-call rotation.General Responsibilities – Division of Student Affairs• Assist with Student Affairs programmatic opportunities for the entire Cooper Union student body.• Maintain a high level of visibility on campus and build strong relationships with students.• Responsible for assisting in the development of leadership, community building, transition, and professional development programs to meet diverse needs of Cooper Union students.• Serves as a liaison between students and Cooper Union administration, campus-wide resources, services, and departments - facilitating positive relationship building.• Support student development and engagement with a focus on community building guided by the ideals of inclusion and belonging.• Develop and foster relationships with Administrative/Academic departments to support campus programs and initiatives.• Develop and implement a strategic plan for all areas of responsibility and provide regular updates to supervisor.• Other duties as assigned within the scope of this position

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS• Experience supervising staff (may be student staff).• Experience working with and advising student organizations and student life functions.• Understanding of student development theory and demonstrated ability to apply theory to practice.• Comfort working in a fast-paced, urban, student-centered environment.• This position requires regular night and weekend availability. Work schedules are adjusted for night, weekend, and after-hours duty obligations to ensure work-life balance.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.• A demonstrated commitment to principles of holistic student wellbeing and intersectional justice.

EDUCATIONBachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a field relevant to the scope of this position strongly preferred.

Salary is $67,250 plus on-campus housing.

This is a non-union position.
