    THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR TWO TERM-LIMITED TEMPORARY POSITIONS AND IS ANTICIPATED TO LAST THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2023. THESE POSITIONS ARE BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE.AS THIS IS A REOPENING OF THE TERM-LIMITED TEMPORARY COURT PROGRAM TECHNICIAN POSITION, IF YOU PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED YOUR MATERIALS FOR THIS POSITION, YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESUBMIT THEM.The responsibilities of these positions include performing work in support of multiple programs and/or departments within the Court Operations Ex Parte and Arbitration Departments or Criminal Department. The incumbent enters data into software programs; maintains, tracks, monitors, research, and updates cases. This position assists litigants, volunteers, attorneys, and other customers by providing information and forms to comply with court orders and follow-up with responsive or remedial action if needed; response to inquiries regarding how to proceed with a specific court process. Duties require the incumbent to interact with judicial officers and internal and external customers on the Ex Parte and Probate calendars. The incumbent also supports other departments in Court Operations as needed. This position requires the ability to deal with high-stress court calendars of a sensitive nature.Who May Apply: These positions are open to all qualified applicants. Applications may be placed on an eligibility list for future recruitments.Work Location: These positions are primarily located at the Maleng Regional Justice Center, 401 Fourth Avenue, Kent, Washington, and/or King County Courthouse, Seattle, Washington. The incumbents may be required to work at other court facilities.Work Schedule and Terms: These positions are hourly (overtime-eligible) and subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. These are full-time, benefit-eligible positions working a 35-hour workweek. The workweek for these positions is normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Variations from these hours may occur based on the needs of the court.   • The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level:

    • Perform tasks in court, including preparing daily calendars; monitoring case readiness in compliance with court rules; interpreting policies and procedures; preparing and writing court orders based on judicial officers' determinations; reviewing pleadings and legal documents for compliance with applicable laws and previously entered orders and creating and updating team distribution lists.
    • Perform operational support activities, including scheduling court dates, determining priority order of cases with respect to local court rules/ legal timeframes, and creating and maintaining the timely distribution of court calendars.
    • Provide procedural information to attorneys, pro se litigants, and others.
    • Facilitate communication between judges, commissioners, court staff, volunteers, and the public. Respond to questions and inquiries regarding specific court rules and implementation of court program policies and procedures.
    • Provide virtual and on-site technical assistance to judicial officers conducting remote and/or in-person hearings. Act as virtual hearing “host,” direct participants, and manage the virtual meeting space for multiple courtrooms simultaneously.
    • Track, maintain, monitor, and input case information into a court-specific database system. Update case status for accurate and current information.
    • Attend court hearings, notate significant actions taken in the courtroom, and enter pertinent information into the court's database.
    • Ensure courtroom security daily in high-volume courtrooms. Initiate security response to courtrooms and court-related areas when required.
    • Provide backup support to other employees and/or program participants as needed.
    • Participate in planning and presenting training programs for attorneys or litigants. Train new employees in processes, policies, and software applications.
    • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level in support of the specific programs or courts.

    High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), and three to five years' experience in court procedures and processes, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Working knowledge of the court system, including roles and responsibilities of court departments and related agencies, key players, and cash flow. Proficient with various computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs.
    • Ability to adjust to interruption, changing circumstances, and priorities and remain attentive to detail, while meeting multiple deadlines.
    • Must be willing and able to work in a team environment handling a high volume of cases.
    • Skill in maintaining confidential information; oral and written communications, interpersonal and human relations, and ability to work with a diverse client population, including internal staff and other stakeholders, and external customers.

    Special requirements: The ability to reliably travel throughout the County is required. Finalists are subject to the Washington State Patrol criminal background check and a reference check.
