Overview

The Logistics Process Improvement Lead is responsible for the continuous process improvement of Contec's logistics operations.

Responsibilities

Logistics Process Improvement

  • Identifies and addresses efficiency improvement opportunities within the logistics organization.
  • Leverages manufacturing lean principles to minimize all forms of waste.
  • Review and revise logistics standard operating procedures, to ensure they represent the latest thinking in the field. Ensure these procedures and work instructions are clear and easily repeatable, so that there is consistency of execution across all teams and shifts.
  • Review the warehouse floor layout as needed. Ensure the inventory location strategy reduces material handler's travel time and maximizes shipping output.
  • Apply technology to replace manual / paper transactions with faster / cost effective solutions.
  • Applies automation technology to maximize labor efficiency and warehouse space utilization.
  • Educates and trains the logistics organization on the tools and methods being implemented to streamline operations.
  • Serves as Contec's point of contact for logistics automation contractors. Supervises contractor's work and ensures efficient and timely completion of all contractor's deliverables.
  • Supports the Distribution Center financial objectives by identifying methods and technology that reduces costs.
  • Works with area supervision and other functions on plans to improve skills, recruit necessary talent, develop leaders and implement teams within the organization.
  • Supports the Distribution Center's safety goals by ensuring all process improvements meet and exceed safety standards.
  • Plans for future capacity requirements and for replacement equipment. Leverages automation and technology knowledge so that proposed solutions are efficient and cost effective.

Logistics Operations

  • Supports the preparation of the annual budget by leveraging statistical methods and data mining software (Power BI, etc.). Apply AI tools to identify trends that help us find the most cost-effective method to achieve logistics goals.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Supports Contec's compliance with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements.
  • Stays current with existing and new legislation and advises management on needed actions.

Other

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Participates and works within ISO 9001-2008 quality standards guidelines in accordance with Contec's quality goals.

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration or related field and 7+ years of experience in warehouse management, international shipping and receiving. Master's degree preferred. Well versed in import/export clearance requirements. Prior experience required in the following fields:

  • Data mining applications (i.e. Power BI)
  • Understanding warehouse automation
  • Statistical methods
  • ERP systems
  • Optimizing warehouse floor layout
  • Understanding lean principles

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Normal office conditions and requirements will include traveling throughout the distribution center and manufacturing areas, frequent overtime, and occasional off-site travel.
