Position Title: Director of the Center for Faith and Culture and Chaplain of the College

Reports to: The President

Employment Status: Staff

FLSA Status: Exempt, nine-month appointment

Summary

The Director of the Center for Faith and Culture and Chaplain of William Jewell College serves as the spiritual guide for the college community. This role oversees church relations, affiliations with religious organizations, and manages the daily operations of the Center. As Chaplain, the position leads worship services on campus, coordinates student ministries, and provides spiritual guidance to administration and staff. The role also articulates the college's perspective as a Christian institution that is welcoming of all faiths and perspectives.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Work closely with the Theologian-in-Residence to foster spiritual exploration, dialogue, and contemplation in pursuit of wisdom, healing, and human flourishing.
  • Serve as the spiritual guide for the college, leading prayer and reflection at convocations and significant events.
  • Engage with churches, synagogues, and mosques regarding programming and partnerships.
  • Manage outreach, marketing, budgeting, and billing for the Center.
  • Organize and lead worship and chapel services that are inclusive and welcoming.
  • Assist students in exploring spiritual activities and organizations.
  • Lead and organize the college's Baccalaureate service.
  • Coordinate special events with Student Life and the Music Department, such as Hanging of the Green and Lighting of the Quad.
Position Requirements
  • Ordination in a Christian faith tradition is required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in church ministry.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to promote the college's mission through outreach and community engagement.
Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Requires occasional evening and weekend work.
