Description/Notes: La Grange ISD is seeking a High School Assistant Band Director. A woodwind specialist is preferred, but all candidates will be considered.This position involves teaching beginner woodwind classes, leading one high school and one middle school concert band, and assisting with other concert bands and the marching band, as well as leading after-school sectionals.La Grange ISD has a strong tradition of success, earning UIL Sweepstakes for eight consecutive years. In 2024-2025, La Grange was the top district in our region represented in ATSSB All-Region Bands. The high school marching band debuted at the UIL State Marching Contest in 2024 and performed at Carnegie Hall in 2025.Our band program has enthusiastic, hard-working students. While strong classroom management is necessary, it is easier here than in many places. We have administrators and coaches who are allies, along with outstanding parent support and a dedicated booster club that plays a critical role in our activities.The Head Director is experienced in successfully mentoring young directors, so first-year applicants will be given serious consideration, provided they are coachable and professional.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityValid Texas teaching certificateDemonstrated competency in instrumental musicSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music programKnowledge of curriculum and instructionKnowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rulesAbility to develop budgets and manage fundsAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorAbility to interpret dataStrong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Student teaching or approved internship experienceRESPONSIBILITIES:Instructional StrategiesAssist with directing instrumental performers, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles (Grades 6-12).Assist with establishing performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.Assist Director of Bands to provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL. This requires knowledge of state and UIL rules governing bands.Assist with development and implementation plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Assist Director of Bands in all aspects. Ability to work well with other activity sponsors.Student Growth and DevelopmentAssist with ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. Recruit, promote, and advocate for the band program.Classroom Management and OrganizationCreate an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Manage student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trip activities and arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.CommunicationStrong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills a must. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Computer skills beneficial.Budget and InventoryAssist with development and administration of the budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.Oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing of all instruments and equipment.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Professional Growth and DevelopmentParticipate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.OtherOther duties as assigned by the Principal and High School Director of BandsFollow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.All staff must download and utilize the school safety alert app on their personal phone.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED)Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking/marchingLifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move musical instrumentsEnvironment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noiseMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district and statewide travel

Salary Range: LGISD Teacher Hiring Schedule
