Job Summary:

As a Principal Hardware Engineer, you will focus on module development, system integration and test, new product introduction, and operations support. You are a part of a dedicated hardware electrical engineering team that collaborates within hardware and across the organization. The Hardware Engineer bridges between program/product management, system/architecture engineering, mechanical/CAD, software, manufacturing, and customers. You will be responsible for reporting and presenting to management and externally to customers. You will also interact with third party partners that deliver power products to Mercury.

In this role, you have the opportunity to design, analyze, and test system and module power architectures. You will develop power distribution systems for high-end processing subsystems with up to 20 or more complex circuit assemblies. The input high power system architecture includes AC and DC. The power supply outputs include DC 28V, 12V, 5V, and 3.3V. The power sub-system may be comprised of a single supply or scaled in a parallel for higher power and redundancy. System power architecture typically includes cabling, Line-Voltage-Filter, backplane, and power modules. Other support circuitry in the system and on the power supplies includes interfaces such as PMBus, I2C, Clocking, JTAG, UART/RS232, and other IOs.

You will be a part of a dynamic, experienced, and highly skilled, full-service, electrical hardware power engineering team in our Sensor Systems line of business. We all work together to deliver our BuiltSECURE product line which includes our Rugged Edge Servers and our OpenVPX subsystems for our Aerospace and Defense customers. We are an agile team focused on delivering innovative, high-quality products to our customers on time and on budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Executing, documenting, and guiding team members with debug and root cause analysis
• System requirements for proposals, requirements, and verification/qualification
• Interface with manufacturing for debug and yield improvements
• Interface with customer support, FAEs, and customers
• Sustainment of released products
• Hardware design improvements involving schematic design/capture, PCB layout, and testing
• Interacting with architecture/system engineering, program/product management, CAD & SI, ME, FW/SW, purchasing, and Manufacturing Operations.
• Interfacing with third party vendors for power product integration with Mercury systems
• Designing functional specifications generation
• Designing schematics generation
• Designing verification plans generation and execution
• Developing embedded modules, backplanes, IO interface modules, and more
• Supporting peer design reviews and process improvements

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 9 years of electrical engineering experience in design, manufacturing, or sustainment or a Graduate Degree (MS/PhD) and a minimum of 7 years of prior related work experience
• Experience with AC (60Hz/400Hz) and DC Voltages (24V to 270V)
• Experience with AC/DC and DC/DC high powered converters
• This position requires you to access information that is subject to U.S. export regulations. Desired Qualifications:

• Skilled at design, analysis, debug, and test
• Experience with power factor correction
• Experience with Line-Voltage-Filters (LVF)
• Experience with power load testing and scope measurements
• Skilled with Simulation tools such as LTSPICE, HSPICE and Ansoft
• Experience in Military Power Standards (MIL STD 461F, 1275D, 704F, DO160G/1399 and others)
• Experience with EMI/EMC Radiated and Conducted Emissions Qualification (CE101, CE102, RE101, RE102, and others)
• Experience with EMI/EMC Susceptibility and Safety
• Skilled with component and system level troubleshooting for power, digital, and analog circuits
• Skilled with Spectrum analyzers and VNAs
• Skilled with standard electronics test and measurement tools (scopes, multi-meters)
• Familiar with schematic capture (Mentor, DxDesigner, Cadence Concept, or equivalent)
• Skilled at PCB layout analysis and review (Cadence Allegro or equivalent)
• Experience with environmental chamber and stress testing
• Experience with VITA-62 (Module Power Supply), VITA-48 (Mechanical)
• Experience 3U/6U VPX, VITA 46 (VPX), VITA-65 (OpenVPX), VITA-46.11 (System Management)
• Experience with Open Compute and CRPS
• Design with Industrial and Military Grade Components and Operating Environments.
• System Management IPMI Architecture
• Commercial/Telecommunications ATCA PICMG 3.0 experience
• Commercial/Telecommunications Server and Blade experience
• Design for Reliability (DFR), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Cost (DFC)
• Design with Radiation Tolerant Grade Components and Operating Environments.
• Derating and FMECA Analysis
• Requirements traceability (JAMA, DOORS)
• Atlassian Collaboration Tools (JIRA, Confluence)
