Only candidates who are permanent in the Architect title, reachable on the Open-Competitive List (Exam #3040), or the Open-Competitive Exam #5009 in August 2024 may apply. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, seeks a Facility Architectural Assessor. The candidate will conduct condition assessments in City-owned buildings, evaluating exterior and interior components, code compliance, sustainability, and resiliency. The role involves identifying immediate and potential issues, coordinating ADA surveys, recording existing conditions, analyzing codes and laws, and preparing assessment reports for budget planning.

Authorization to work in the United States is required. The NYC Department of Design and Construction does not sponsor visas, including STEM/OPT. Applicants must meet all requirements at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A valid New York State Registration as an Architect, maintained throughout employment.
  • For Level II and III placements, at least one year of recent experience as a major contributor or project leader on complex projects requiring specialized expertise.
  • Preferred Skills

    Candidates should understand building construction methods, especially of older 19th and 20th-century buildings. Experience in forensic diagnosis of deterioration and failure issues is highly desirable. A minimum of 3 years of relevant field inspection experience is required. Candidates must be physically capable of site visits, including accessing stairs, rooftops, and confined spaces, and must have effective verbal and written communication skills. A valid driver's license is required.
