About the Work Unit. This work unit in Region 4 (Limon) administers transportation construction and design contracts and oversees the contractors and consultants performing the work. Design activities include developing construction plans, specifications, and preliminary estimates for advertising budgeted transportation projects along the units specified corridors. Design activities are performed by an in-house design team or administered through design consultant contracts. The designs must adhere to the guidelines, standards, and policies of the State of Colorado and the Federal Highway Administration while staying within the project scope and budget. Construction activities include materials testing, inspection for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, quality assurance and control, documentation of pay quantities, authorization of contract payments, initiation and authorization of contract modification orders, and monitoring of financial status.
