College and Career Counselor Forte Preparatory Academy Charter School opened its high school in August 2023, and we are looking for a college counselor to join the College and Career Readiness team to ensure that our high school students have the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in college and beyond. The founding college counselor will work collaboratively with families, teachers, leaders and external organizations and colleges to both develop internal programming and cultivate external partnerships, so that students have opportunities in and outside of the classroom. Operating since 2016, Forte Prep Middle School has consistently outperformed the district and state. In Fall 2023, we will open our door to our first 9th grade. We are currently building out our leadership team so that our schools have the network guidance and support they need. We do this work because 77% of high school graduates in our neighborhood are unprepared for the academic rigor of college. We do this work so that these students can beat the odds stacked against them and change those odds forever. Job Description The Director of College and Career Readiness will work closely with the school administration, faculty, students, and families to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for college and career readiness. The primary responsibilities of the Director will include:
- Implementing a comprehensive 9-12 college and career readiness program that aligns with the school's mission, vision, and values. This may include developing specific curriculum, supporting on advisory curriculum, leading Town Halls.
- Supporting the team in delivering college and career readiness services and programs to students.
- Collaborating with community organizations, colleges, and employers to create partnerships and opportunities that enhance students' college and career readiness.
- Engaging, as both a consultant and a leader as appropriate, in schoolwide curriculum development initiatives and graduation requirements
- Conducting outreach to families to engage and inform them about college and career readiness programs and opportunities.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with colleges and universities, and serving as a liaison between the school and higher education institutions.
Qualifications The ideal candidate for the College Counselor position will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in college and career readiness, counseling, college admissions or related field.
- Experience working in college admissions preferred
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing college and career readiness programs and initiatives.
- Ability to work with students in both a 1:1 or classroom setting.
- Knowledge of current trends, practices, and resources in college and career readiness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to inspire and motivate others.
Compensation Salary range is $65,000-80,000 commensurate with your experience.
