Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Swine Medicine. PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development. A formal faculty mentoring program is in place.

Qualifications

The successful candidate for the position should possess the DVM or equivalent degree and will have completed the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a discipline that complements or expands existing discovery efforts of the PVM. Other qualifications for the position include completion of a residency program or qualifying experience approved by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP), American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (ACVPM), or other recognized veterinary specialty certifying body and eligibility to practice as a veterinarian in the United States. The predominant clinical responsibility will be providing veterinary services for swine clients as part of the PVMs Farm Animal Field Service. Salary will be commensurate with the candidates qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning, clinical and service/engagement missions of the PVM and VCS department. Important activities include:

  • Discovery: Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program, with preference for research that complements and builds on current PVM and College of Agriculture faculty interests and strengths. Faculty are encouraged to collaborate on research projects whenever possible.
  • Learning: Excellent clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of DVM students, veterinary nursing students, house officers, and graduate students.
  • Clinical: Providing veterinary services to clients of the Purdue University Swine Field Service (typical time commitment for tenure track: 30 - 50%); building strong relationships with the farm animal clientele and swine veterinarians; teaching and supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers.
  • Service and Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations, delivery of continuing education, and other appropriate activities.
