F99951 Assistant Professor in Evolutionary ParasitologistDescription of position The Department of Biological Sciences at Northeastern StateUniversity (NSU) is currently seeking a biologist specializing in evolutionaryparasitology for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. NSU is apredominantly undergraduate university of approximately 6,000 students. The main campus is located inTahlequah, Oklahoma with branch campuses in Broken Arrow and Muskogee. The Department ofBiological Sciences within the Gregg Wadley College of Science and Health Professions featuresmodern facilities housed in the recently constructed and well-equipped science complexesin both Tahlequah and Broken Arrow. Northeastern State University traces its roots backto the founding of the original Cherokee National Female Seminary in 1851, establishing NSUas a leader in education in Oklahoma. The City of Tahlequah, located in the foothills ofthe picturesque Ozark Mountains in eastern Oklahoma, remains the capital of the CherokeeNation. The Broken Arrow campus is located approximately 50 miles from the Tahlequah campus andis noted as a modern center of higher education in the Tulsa metro area. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. The successful candidate will teach courses in thebiology programs including Animal Parasitology, Animal Systematics (preference for birdsand/or herps, but any group of animals is welcome), Evolution, and may include courses inAnimal Biology, introductory level biology lectures and labs, non-majorsbiology, and upper-level elective offerings in Biology, depending on the successfulcandidate's area of expertise. Teaching assignments may include both day and evening classes,teaching on multiple campuses, distance learning classes, and online or blended formats.While this position will be based on the Tahlequah campus, teaching responsibilities mayextend to other NSU campuses as needed. 2. Be engaged in scholarly activities, which may include anexternally funded research program that involves undergraduate students. 3. Advise students. 4. Serve on department, college, and university committees. 5. Possible participation in community outreachopportunities. 6. Perform other service duties typically associated withuniversity faculty. Experience Demonstrated excellence in facilitating learning throughteaching at the undergraduate level. Publication record in the field of expertise. Capacity to develop a student-centered research program inthe candidate's area of expertise. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability and desire to mentor and teach students from diversecultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds. Educational requirements Ph.D. in biology, ecology, evolution, or related field atthe time of hire. ABDs considered. Doctorate required for tenure track and rank of assistantprofessor.
