Are you ready to lead the activation of our recently opened, 52,000 square foot Redmond Senior & Community Center? The City of Redmond Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an innovative and experienced Recreation Supervisor to serve as the operational leader of this state-of-the-art facility while setting the strategic vision for how the team integrates into our comprehensive Parks and Recreation ecosystem. The Recreation Supervisor provides oversight and is responsible for planning and implementation of recreation programs and activities centered around the Redmond Senior & Community Center, including comprehensive staff and budget administration for the assigned section. This position will develop, maintain, and enhance innovative programs and events while providing strategic guidance and direction to staff. The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for creating, tracking, and monitoring the section's budget and requires significant interaction with internal and external resources including staff, volunteers, vendors, contractors, elected officials, participants, regional partners, and the public. Additionally, this position serves as the staff liaison for the City of Redmond Pool, which is operated by a third-party vendor, and is responsible for coordinating communication and operational alignment between the City and the pool operator. This is a full-time position scheduled for weekdays (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.); however, significant evening and weekend work is required based on departmental needs. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES IMMEDIATE IMPACT OPPORTUNITIES This position can expect the following:
  • Operations Management: Serve as the primary site supervisor and operational leader of the newly opened (May 2024) Redmond Senior & Community Center. You will continue to build on processes and procedures that make the building function at a high level
  • Staff Development & Alignment: Work collaboratively with your team to build understanding and buy in around key organizational plans and frameworks including the , , emergency protocols, vision, mission, and departmental goals. Focus on supportive coaching and clear communication to help staff see how their work connects to the bigger picture
  • Strategic Implementation: Be a major player in the development and implementation of the city's comprehensive
  • System Development: Build and maintain scalable systems, processes, and comprehensive plans that align recreation services to meet the evolving needs of our increasingly urban and diverse community
  • Foster Partnerships: Point of contact for several community partnerships and organizations such as WAVE Aquatics, etc.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Facility Operations & Vision Setting
  • Serve as the main point of contact and operational leader for the Redmond Senior & Community Center
  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for how the facility operates within the broader Parks and Recreation ecosystem
  • Ensure seamless integration with existing city programs, services, and facilities
  • Oversee daily operations, facility utilization, and program coordination. Work collaboratively with colleagues and manager to develop and implement both short- and long-range section's plans
Team Leadership & Staff Management
  • Direct Supervision: In this role, you will directly supervise four (4) Program Coordinators, as well as supplemental/seasonal employees and/or volunteers.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Work proactively with the Customer Experience Supervisor and CX staff (full-time and part-time) to foster a collaborative, customer focused environment
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to handle the pressure of high profile, public facing work while navigating complex decision-making processes.
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff; process employee concerns and problems; counsel, discipline, and complete performance evaluations
  • Interview, select, hire and train staff. Providing ongoing mentorship and skill development.
Program Development & Strategic Planning
  • Act as the section's primary liaison with considerable responsibility for ongoing assessment, design, development, implementation, promotion, maintenance, evaluation, and oversight of all programming activities
  • Ensure all programming aligns with Department and City goals and applicable strategic plans
  • Identify and evaluate innovative trends, ideas, and investments consistent with strategic guidelines, keeping programming and operations evolving.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate comprehensive work plans for the section that include key performance indicators, holding staff accountable to department goals.
  • Stay abreast of federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations and statues applicable to section's programming or event and any information of a confidential nature
  • Perform a variety of independent research and analysis
  • Assess a situation and prioritize based on the need
Budget & Financial Management
  • Develop and administer the section's budget consistent with overall Department objectives
  • Oversee fee structures assigned to programs and events within the section
  • Track project expenditures and accurately assess fees and funding requirements
  • Ensure adherence to the Cost-of-Service methodology
Community Engagement & Partnerships
  • Cultivate customer relations to build program loyalty and community connection
  • Develop and partner with internal and external resources to market programs and services
  • Administer contracts and vendor relationships; ensure contractual requirements are met
  • Represent the City at offsite and regional events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
  • Three years experience in parks and recreation operations
  • Supervisory experience preferred; or demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certificates
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certifications (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
