Multiple PositionsALABASTER CITY SCHOOLSJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Mental Health CoordinatorJOB GOAL: To promote the maximum development of and support to students through therapeutic services that promote students academic and social/emotional success.REPORTS TO: Chief Student Services OfficerMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree in social science or mental health counseling (or related clinical field)Valid state certification/licenseExperience in a school settingExperience providing mental health services to childrenExperience in providing individual, group and family counseling, case management; utilizing community resourcesStrong interpersonal skillsPassion for serving at-risk studentsExcellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of crisis prevention, intervention, and managementAbility to establish credibility with all with all constituents, effectively manage sensitive issues, and be comfortable and effective working with all levels of an organizationAbility to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional mannerAbility to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may requireDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals and prioritiesCoordinates the school-based mental health programDevelops and facilitates parent programs, classes, and workshopsProvides counseling, referrals, and intervention services to promote students' academic and social/emotional successProvides crisis intervention to students and familiesWorks to actively engage students and families in the services and programs offeredWorks with students to identify situations, behaviors, and thoughts that interfere with their schoolingExamines social issues that may negatively affect students including peer pressure, bullying, and substance abuse and teachers copying skillsIntegrates social emotional learning into the classroomAssists administrators, counselors, teachers, and others in crisis situations as neededServes as liaison for community resourcesMakes necessary home visitsServes on or consults with IEP or 504 team and attends other student/family meetings when requestedMaintains documentation regarding services provided to students/familiesAbides by professional Code of EthicsAssists administrator with overall school needsAdheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local lawsPerforms other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month (240-day) contractSALARY RANGE: Appropriate placement on current salary scheduleEVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Board policy
