The Police Records Clerk is a civilian position within the Police Department responsible for performing a diverse range of highly skilled tasks that are crucial to both the community and law enforcement partners. The position involves managing access to records, processing arrests, and entering data into national law enforcement databases. There is currently one vacancy. The eligibility list established by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Police Records Clerk vacancies as they occur throughout the department. Police Records Clerk $4,047 - $5,166 per month. Future salary increase + 3% - July 2026.

Education and experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position may be considered as qualifying. A typical combination includes graduation from high school and two years of performing responsible clerical duties, including one year of public contact experience.

Special requirements: Type at a net speed of 45 words per minute. Must be able to successfully pass a Police Department pre-employment screening process. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs. Must be able to work rotating shifts, overtime, emergency callback, nights, holidays, and weekends to accommodate City needs.

Physical requirements: Work is performed in an office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting and the use of a computer, keyboard, and related equipment. An incumbent stands, walks, and may twist, reach, bend, crouch, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and grasp, push, pull, drag, and move boxes of files and other office items weighing 30 pounds or less. With or without reasonable accommodation, the Police Records Clerk must be able to meet the physical requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing, and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.

Based on the information provided in the application and other required materials, the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process, which may include a written exam, a performance test, an oral interview, and/or other assessment methods. The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process. Candidates will be notified of any changes before the related examination step. Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for this recruitment will be placed on an eligible list, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list. Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

Employment offers are conditional upon the successful completion of a background check and a medical examination conducted by the City's designated physician at the City's expense. The background check will include fingerprinting, verified by the State of California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Certain positions may require a more extensive background check. Medical examinations assess an individual's ability to meet the physical requirements of the position. Additionally, all new hires and employees appointed to safety-sensitive classifications must undergo a drug screening. An appointee will serve a 12-month probationary period.
