Assists the Senior Tourism Sales & Marketing Manager with sales initiatives, lead follow-up, client services, and event operations that position Polk County as a leading travel and tourism destination.ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:Sales and Marketing Support•Assists in implementing the division's sales and marketing plan and related client service agreements. •Coordinates follow-up after trade shows, conventions, and consumer events to maintain client engagement and maximize return on investment. •Aids in organizing sales missions in key target markets to generate qualified leads. •Supports budgeting, financial oversight, and analysis of trade shows and promotional efforts. •Travels to promote Polk County at tourism and consumer trade shows and related functions.Client Services and Outreach•Manages the client database, conducts data mining, and supports sales and marketing efforts. •Assists with generating and qualifying leads using tourism databases and other prospecting methods. •Prepares reports, presentations, and analytical materials to support sales initiatives. •Acts as a liaison for incoming sales calls, emails, and other communications, providing information or directing inquiries appropriately. •Coordinates and assists in hosting client familiarization tours and other promotional events.Event Coordination and Operations•Assists with planning and executing County-owned or co-sponsored events, including securing venues, coordinating logistics, and supporting on-site operations. •Helps manage event budgets, including revenue projections, expense tracking, and valuation of in-kind contributions. •Negotiates and arranges hotel room blocks and rates for visiting groups, meetings, and special events. •Supports the Senior Tourism Sales & Marketing Manager with bid applications, volunteer recruitment, and logistical execution.Administrative and Logistical Functions •Maintains and replenishes sales kits, promotional items, videos, and collateral used in client engagement. •Plans and coordinates trade show participation, including exhibit registration, shipping, and logistics. •Assists in maintaining the calendar of trade shows, events, and exhibit usage to optimize marketing resources. •Supports departmental staff at tradeshows, acts as a step-on guide for motorcoach tours, and responds to group travel inquiries. •Performs other related duties as assigned. •Assists with managing cooperative sponsorship programs for meetings, conventions, arts, culture and heritage.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Tourism, Sales, and Event Knowledge •Understanding of tourism sales practices, marketing principles, public relations strategies, and client engagement methods. •Familiarity with event planning, trade show coordination, and tourism-based promotional tactics.Analytical and Technical Proficiency •Ability to analyze data, develop reports, and prepare tactical sales plans and presentations. •Proficient in database systems, word processing, and digital communication tools.Communication and Collaboration •Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver public presentations. Capable of building productive relationships with colleagues, clients, industry partners, and the public. •Skilled at managing high volumes of work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Personal Effectiveness •Demonstrates initiative, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency. •Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team. •Positive attitude and enthusiasm for promoting tourism and enhancing visitor experiences.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited four (4) year college or university have a minimum of four (4) years' sales, marketing or business-related experience, preferably-or- in the tourism industry. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment. A comparable amount of training and related experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications, except for the driver's license requirement.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
