Prevention Specialist

The incumbent of this position is responsible for serving as the primary source for technical assistance support, related to substance use prevention, for community coalitions to facilitate the development of community coalitions capable of making changes in substance use patterns in their community.

Key responsibilities include: serving as the point of contact for members of community-based coalitions, providing information to coalitions about substance use prevention programs and resources, offering technical assistance and training resources to the coalitions, assisting with the creation of a yearly community needs assessment, contributing to the development and updating of the draft and final Strategic Work Plan, participating in the Statewide Prevention Training and Resource Network, and preparing and submitting various reports.

Experience and/or Education Qualifications: graduate from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a closely related field; OR graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a closely related field, who has at least one (1) year professional experience in a social service agency; OR graduate from an accredited college with an Associate's Degree in education, public health, psychology, community development, public administration, or a closely related field, who has at least two (2) years of professional experience in a social service agency. 75% FTE Staff: obtain, at a minimum, the Missouri Substance Abuse Prevention Associate (MSAPA) credential through the Missouri Substance Abuse Professional Credentialing Board within six (6) months of hire. 75% FTE Staff: attend the Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) within nine (9) months of hire.
