Serving approximately 14,000 New Yorkers annually, we address barriers to educational achievement, economic security, and career stability through three key program areas:Education and School-Day Programs: Offering pre-kindergarten services, community schools, after-school programs, and college access counseling.Sector-Focused Training and Employment Placement Pathways: Providing specialized training, employment placement pathways, Summer Youth Employment, Work Learning Grow initiatives, and aiding residents in accessing new employment opportunities.Community & Economic Empowerment Services: Enabling community progress through community centers, resident services, food access, financial literacy programs, and support accessing benefits and wellness services.We collaborate with government, corporate, and philanthropic partners to effect significant and lasting social change, fostering thriving communities.Position Summary:The Activity Specialist will be able to provide daily hands on activities in their specialty area. The Activity Specialist will teach a weekly class in a specific content area (ie. athletics, fitness, gaming, cooking) in our program designed to improve youth development, leadership and civic engagement, social-emotional learning, sports-based youth development, and academics. This dynamic specialist will use activities as a vehicle to promote healthy social, physical, and emotional development. Salary: $19 to $25 per hour and is commensurate with education, training, experience and program sizeDuties and Responsibilities:Work individually with students, and collaborate with staff to provide an enriching learning experience for all participantsCreate individualize learning plan for each participant or cohort based on academic strength/area of specialty.Establish a comfortable learning environment and implement clear, consistent age-appropriate expectationsDocument student progressMaintain accurate participant attendance, activity and sign-out recordsMaintain classroom cleanliness and organizationModel appropriate child development practicesPerform other duties as assigned by the Program DirectorQualifications:HS Diploma or HSE; 3-5 years proven experience in activity areaExperience with the design and implementation of group activitiesThe ability to work with young people at multiple grade levels and varying stages of development.Previous experience working in an urban environmentExcellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacyBilingual (Spanish speaking) preferredEnthusiasm, creativity and initiativeA sense of humor and a sense of urgencyPhysical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
