Job Description

JOB TITLE: Housing Specialist

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DIVISION: Services

REPORTS TO: Shelter Director

LOCATION: Queens, NY

SALARY: $45,000.00 to $52,000.00

SUMMARY:

This position will work out of a homeless shelter located in Queens, NY. The Housing Specialist is responsible for working with clients to identify permanent housing. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations required.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Interfaces with landlord and management companies to establish working relationships.
  • Create and maintain liaison with DHS Housing Placement Unit.
  • Oversees landlord and management company compliance with housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements.
  • Works with Case Management to identify clients ready for housing.
  • Resolves crises or conflicts with landlords and management relationships.
  • Ensures fair housing standards are maintained in securing apartments.
  • Develops and maintains a database of available housing options.
  • Identifies new housing opportunities through ongoing networks.
  • Prepares and coordinates reports related to housing codes and compliance.
  • Informs Case Management of unit readiness and client issues.
  • Prepares housing packages and collaborates with Case Management on applications, assisting with document access.
  • Experience, Education, and Requirements

    Experience should include negotiating lease agreements and providing housing for special needs populations. Knowledge of applicable housing and disability laws is essential. Must possess a valid drivers license. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
