Responsibilities

As an Excess & Surplus Underwriting Technician, you'll be joining a small yet dynamic and rapidly growing team where you'll play a key role in shaping a high-performing underwriting operation from the ground up. In this fast-paced environment, you'll support the underwriting process by conducting initial reviews of new business submissions. Your focus will be on identifying competitive opportunities, gathering essential underwriting information, and determining the appropriate next stepswhether that's responding directly to agents or escalating to an underwriter.

We'll count on you to:

  • Manage accounts post issuance, involving the Underwriter as needed
  • Process new, renewal and endorsement transactions within authority and engage underwriters with thoughtful reviews for items exceeding granted authority
  • Oversee daily operations of the service email inbox, including triaging messages, assigning tasks to appropriate team members, and ensuring all inquiries are addressed within established response timeframes.
  • Support overall underwriting book, ensuring timely processing of work and focus on retention of profitable accounts
  • Other work and projects, as assigned
Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • Minimum three to five years of high-net-worth personal lines administrative support experience, preferred in the Excess and surplus lines space.
  • Able to be a pro-active advocate for Berkley One customers and are passionate about their brand experience
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong customer service bias with a goal to get to yes and responsiveness.
  • An analytical mind, a love for diving into the details of an account in order to craft pricing and coverage that meet underwriting guidelines, profitability models and customer needs
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include: Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus. Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
