Job Description :

The Director-Government Relations serves as the primary contact point on all state and local government affairs matters for states where SSA Marine has a presence or interest. Under the direction of the Vice President-Government Relations, the Director will provide intelligence, advice, and support for all business units and functions concerning proposed regulatory, legislative and policy changes and community relations in states where the SSA Marine operates. The Director will represent the Company before state and local governments including elected officials, councils, legislatures and staff as well as work with appropriate business leads to support grant and other resource opportunities with local and state governments.

  • Provides intelligence, advice, and support for business units and functional leads for the Company concerning proposed regulatory, legislative, and policy changes and community relations in states where the company does business.
  • Represents the company before state and local governments and with selected professional organizations and associations to advocate on behalf of SSA Marine.
  • Communicates with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders as required regarding state laws, policies, and their business impact.
  • Coordinate and work with SSA leads to support grant and other resource opportunities for the company with local and state governments.
  • Provides support and backup for other special projects in the U.S. and on global matters as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-12 years of experience; 3-5 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Strong Knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and policy roles of state and local governments.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and handle complex assignments.
  • Excellent advocacy and negotiating skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills and ability to work with subordinates, contemporaries, and executive personnel.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills, as well as excellent writing skills.
  • Strong skills in use of MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to work under pressure and thrive in a multi-task, fast-paced, structured corporate environment.
  • High level of assertiveness and self-motivation.
  • Ability to function as a team player, share ideas, and offer and welcome constructive reviews.
  • Must effectively plan, prioritize and manage workload and be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No Work Environment:
  • Exposure to computer screens.
  • Occasional travel, around 15%.
  • The noise level in work environment is usually moderate.
  • Required hybrid work schedule, at least 3 days/week in office.
  • Required job duties are performed in a professional office environment.
