Lower Columbia College is seeking a dedicated Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist 1 to maintain the grounds and landscapes for our Head Start/ECEAP centers. In this vital role, you'll work independently and collaboratively with LCC's Campus Services department, ensuring our outdoor environments are always at their best. - Uses a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edger's, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers.
- Utilizes a range of outdoor power equipment such as mowers, trimmers, hedgers, blowers, and weed eaters to efficiently perform landscaping and grounds maintenance duties.
- Follow a routine landscaping schedule to meet site needs.
- Perform regular weeding of all flower beds and barked areas. This also includes trimming and pruning of bushes and trees to maintain their health and appearance.
- Review and prioritize grounds and nursery services related tasks.
- Adhere to all standard operating procedures, the building's operational schedule, and mandatory safety regulations while performing work.
- Conduct weekly site visits to Head Start/ECEAP program locations as per a predefined schedule, identifying preventative grounds and nursery service requirements and completing necessary items.
- Utilize personal or program vehicles to/from sites, to pick up needed materials, and to complete work order requests.
- Plants, transplants, trims, and waters plants, trees, flowers, lawns and shrubs.
- Other related duties as required.

- Valid Driver's License.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience in maintenance/ custodial field.
- Ability to perform tasks around children from infancy to age five, while ensuring safety and appropriate interactions/boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation, and landscape installation.

Anticipated Start Date LCC offers two start dates for new employees - the 1st and 16th or the closest working day. Non-permanent Part-time Employees Paid Leave Paid leave is accrued in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Leave is accrued based on the same proportional basis that the non-permanent part-time appointment bears to a full-time schedule. Non-perm employees accrue prorated vacation, sick leave, one personal holiday, and two personal leave days. Non-perm employees may also participate in leave sharing. Holiday Credit Holiday credit is provided to non-perm part-time higher education employees and is proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the same month of the holiday of that required for full-time employment excluding all holiday hours. Temporary Part-time Employees Paid leave Temporary employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.
