Miami, FL | Full-Time CHS MWDC Nursing Summary Dental Assistant performs various procedures in preparation of patients, aiding dentists during treatment, processing of X-Ray films and maintaining equipment. Responsibilities Monitors defined standards to determine the quality of patient care. Obtains and records patient information, medical history and dental treatment given on appropriate records. Answers telephone. Performs CRT functions and makes patient's appointments. Assists dentists, as required maintaining awareness of patients growth and development. Exposes and processes dental X-Ray or panorex units, taking into consideration specific ages, patients growth and development, and patients safety. Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment, as required. Gives emergency treatment for local and systematic distress under medical direction while assuming that patient age specific needs are met. Sterilizes instruments in autoclaves, dry heat ovens or with chemical disinfectants. Maintains equipment. Stores sterilized instruments and maintains asepsis during storage. Performs routine maintenance such as lubricating of equipment or sharpening dental hand instruments. Maintains exposed X-Ray files in appropriate order. Assists in training and supervision of dental assistants in training programs by demonstration of techniques, with regard to specific age population, patient safety, growth and development or other methods. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs other related work as required. Experience Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience. Education High school diploma is required. Skill Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area. Credentials American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Completion of accredited school for dental assistants is required. Unit Specific Credential FL-BLS Working Conditions Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
