ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time. Apprenticeship Program - Plans, lays out, and performs all machine operations to sharpen, alter, and repair intricately designed and constructed tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, machine attachments, and mechanisms, under the guidance of a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. Candidate will ultimately enroll in, and complete a state sponsored indentured apprenticeship with prescribed coursework and on the job training to achieve Journeyman Tool and Die Maker status. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time. • Works from blueprints, sketches, models, and drawings to plan work and compute dimensions, etc. • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges using measuring instruments. • Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, and saws • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. • Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using files, power grinders, or scrapers. Other duties as assigned or required. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required. • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and eligible to enroll in technical college • High energy learner with energy and passion for metal working and the Tool & Die trade • High reliability including attendance, taking direction, and following documented processes and procedures • Previous experience in bench repair, including assembly, machinery, up-keep, layout, die repair, inspection, press troubleshooting design, quality control, die and/or fixture building, welding, and heat treating, helpful but not required. • Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches, or computer-aided design (CAD) files, helpful but not required. • Possess good verbal and written communication skills • Ability to perform basic shop mathematics; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
