Overview Underwrites and manages primarily mid-sized and special risk Louisiana workers' compensation accounts by balancing data and judgment of relevant underwriting factors to attract and maintain profitable business. Reports to the Underwriting Manager and uses advanced underwriting expertise, communication, and problem-solving skills to create an exceptional experience for our customers, while ensuring that workers' compensation insurance policies are underwritten profitably, fairly, and accurately. Under minimal supervision, navigates medium complexity and specialty underwriting scenarios and key stakeholder relationships. Major Areas of Accountability
- Primarily analyzes current and prospective mid-sized and specialty risk policyholders' qualitative and quantitative account characteristics to appropriately evaluate the risk and recommend a selection and pricing decision within designated authority
- Examines new and renewal applications and change requests for missing information and determines appropriate action to be taken. Uses discernment to determine acceptance or rejection of risks based on individual account characteristics and exposures.
- Uses and applies advanced knowledge of internal and regulatory underwriting manuals, guidelines, and procedures to review applications, policies and change requests, ensuring that exposures are classified correctly and accurately priced, while following NCCI rules and state statutes
- Makes recommendations to Underwriting Manager for applications, renewals or change requests outside of designated authority
- Leverages data analysis and advanced knowledge of pricing tools to appropriately evaluate and price workers' compensation policies and identify actionable insights for customers
- Maintains advanced knowledge of applicable laws, statutes, and regulatory requirements regarding workers' compensation insurance
- Facilitates and recommends the involvement of Safety Services, Agency Relations, Claims, Premium Audit, Finance, and other teams within the corporation as needed to and for policyholders. Participates in establishing service plans and requirements, monitors progress and outcomes, and adjusts coverage and price accordingly based on results
- Takes a proactive approach to problems by identifying, mitigating, and intervening on matters before they become large, complex problems
- Serves as a coach, mentor, and technical resource to departmental staff
- Partners with internal and external stakeholders to recommend solutions for and respond to complex questions, requests, and issues as they arise
- Fosters and maintains relationships with external partners. Works collaboratively with agents, brokers, and others to actively identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing, sales, and negotiation skills.
- Communicates effectively with agency partners regarding the acceptance or rejection of coverage, endorsements, pricing, etc. or to obtain additional information for sound underwriting decisions while upholding high standards of customer service
- Serve as a trusted underwriting resource on projects and committees throughout the organization
- Collaborates with internal teams to identify and share customer pain points, helping drive innovative solutions that decrease cost and continually improve customer satisfaction
- Provides recommendations and input to Underwriting Manager on profit analysis, premium planning, market analysis, and book of business performance

Education and Experience
- Expertise in underwriting areas such as skilled risk analysis and advanced knowledge of specialty coverages i.e., USL&H and Oil & Gas
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of LWCC Underwriting Manual and applicable NCCI Manuals
- Bachelor's Degree (preferably an insurance degree) or a CPCU designation with minimum 5 years Casualty Underwriting experience with a minimum of 3 years Workers Compensation experience OR minimum 11 years Casualty Underwriting experience with a minimum of 3 years Workers Compensation experience.
