Overview Public Works technicians in Channel maintenance are responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of the Storm Water infrastructure and drainage system operations. This position operates various maintenance equipment to meet the yearly goals of channel maintenance and repairs.
Responsibilities • Obey all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another • Able to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets and earthen rights-of-ways • Perform daily pre/post trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicle • Follow the traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide • Direct traffic control at job sites by flagging, cones, barrels and barricades • Know how to setup message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, Ill barricade during normal & emergency operations • Install, repair, and maintain storm water mains, inlets, and water manholes • Operate crew truck, mini excavator, backhoe, dump truck, tractor-trailer, truck and trailer combinations, transporting heavy equipment machinery, and perform confined space work • Ensure work site safety and trench safety practices are followed • Log time, material, equipment and input work performed in Maximo • Investigate issues reported on the drainage systems • May be assigned additional duties as needed • Respond to after-hours and weekends emergencies • Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency. All employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shifts under emergency responses • Perform with a professional mind set • Must be able to lead a team, if needed • Keep materials stock in vehicles assignment, must communicate when supply/materials are low • Able to work in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/or elevated conditions • Must be able to evaluate safe work conditions • Must be proficient in decision making • Must be able to lead Public Works Tech I & Tech ll's • Must be able to communicate with internal or external customers • Be professional under any conditions • When given a request, ensure proper communication with the foreman, work coordinator, planner/scheduler, and assistant director • Complete daily reports, work orders • All reports and work orders much be legible
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time • Rotating 40-hour work week, 24-hour shifts, 7 days a week
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED • Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire • Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging (within 6 months) • Certification in Confine Space (within 6 months) • Certification in Trenching and Shoring (within 6 months)
Preferred • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
