Volunteer Opportunities Vera House, Inc. is a human service agency that provides unconditional care for individuals and families through comprehensive domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention services. POSITION SUMMARY: As a volunteer at Vera House, Inc., your support and care can make all the difference to a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or elder abuse. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available assisting in the following areas: Support and Information Line, Web Chat Support Line, support group facilitation and tabling at health fairs and other events, reception coverage, office projects, filing and other administrative tasks, and special project or campaign volunteering. DIRECT AND INDIRECT OPPORTUNITIES:
- Support and Information Line: Answering our 24-hour support line during the day and providing emotional support and information to callers.
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-1 pm or 12:30-5 pm, at our administrative office.
- Web Chat Support Line: Coverage of our web chat resource, providing emotional support and information regarding Vera House services.
- Web chat is answered remotely/from your home or can be answered at our administrative offices (during business hours - 8:30 am to 5 pm). Shifts for this role are available seven days a week for shifts from 8:30 am-1 pm, 1-5 pm, and 5-9 pm.
- Tabling at health and volunteer fairs and other events.
- Reception coverage at our administrative office.
- Office projects - mailing, preparing materials for training or conferences.
- Filing and other administrative tasks.
- Special projects - White Ribbon Campaign, Clothesline Project, Survivors Network, etc.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be removed from your own personal crisis situation.
- Completion of a satisfactory background check.
- Completion of agency orientation and basic training on domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse.
- Attendance required for specialized training to work directly with clients.
