Duties Description The incumbent must be able to perform the following essential functions:• Assist in the assignment, scheduling, and monitoring of work for clerical staff.• Train, supervise, and evaluate a team of Office Assistant 1s and/or Tax Information Aides (TIAs);• Create performance standards and evaluations for subordinates. • Administer counseling or disciplinary action, if required, for subordinates.• Manipulate an alphanumeric keyboard to use a variety of software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications to enter information, make inquiries, and changes. • Navigate various PC applications to access and interpret information, update records, prepare reports and forms, research, and enter data pertaining to taxpayer records. • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to handle inquiries and provide information to the public and Department personnel. • Type, proofread, and edit from handwritten and printed material, memoranda, correspondence and reports and will need accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation usage.• Create, organize and maintain office files.• Prepare and type various department forms to complete print and mail request transactions Receive, open, and distribute incoming mail.• Review correspondence and other documents for completeness and content.• Respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.The incumbent must be able to perform the following essential functions:• Assist in the assignment, scheduling, and monitoring of work for clerical staff.• Train, supervise, and evaluate a team of Office Assistant 1s and/or Tax Information Aides (TIAs);• • Create performance standards and evaluations for subordinates. • • Administer counseling or disciplinary action, if required, for subordinates.•????Manipulate an alphanumeric keyboard to use a variety of software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications to enter information, make inquiries, and changes. • Navigate various PC applications to access and interpret information, update records, prepare reports and forms, research, and enter data pertaining to taxpayer records. • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to handle inquiries and provide information to the public and Department personnel. • Type, proofread, and edit from handwritten and printed material, memoranda, correspondence and reports and will need accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation usage.• Create, organize and maintain office files.• Prepare and type various department forms to complete print and mail request transactions Receive, open, and distribute incoming mail.• Review correspondence and other documents for completeness and content.• Respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.• Operate office equipment such as printers, photocopiers, and fax machines.• Collaborate constructively with other staff to identify problem areas and resolve issues.• Perform other related office support duties.• Perform tasks accurately within the prescribed timeframes.• Complete mandatory employee and/or supervisory training.• Comply with the Office of Human Resources Management Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Code of Conduct; Ethics; and Internal Control rules, policies, and procedures; and • Adhere to the Department's time and attendance rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be current NYS employees eligible for a 70.1 transfer in accordance with Civil Service Laws, Rules, and Regulations.ORReachable on the appropriate Civil Service Eligible List for this title and location.OR If eligible via 55 b/c please provide a copy of your active letter of eligibility with your response. ORThis title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.Within one year of permanent appointment, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Current NYS employees with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as an Office assistant, clerical or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher. Qualifying titles are available at: year of clerical experience.
