Job Description :

Purpose: This position assists the Director of Prevention and Intervention Counseling in designing, implementing and supporting the expansion of the Albuquerque Public Schools Crossroads Substance Prevention and Intervention Counseling Program into middle, K-8 and select magnet schools. The main components of this position are: 1) supporting comprehensive counseling program development and expansion 2) training new Crossroads Counselors and providing professional development in the areas in substance prevention and intervention for the Crossroads team 3) coaching and supporting Crossroads counselors in creating, implementing and maintaining a visible, data driven, ASCA aligned substance prevention and intervention program at their school 4) collecting, analyzing and reporting out data identifying areas for improvement to increase program efficacy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Works with the Director of Prevention and Intervention Counseling to develop, align, implement, monitor and provide technical assistance to the expansion of the Crossroads Counseling Program by determining and reviewing existing student, family, staff and school needs in the area of substance prevention and intervention
  • Creates and maintains an active Google calendar that reflects all forms of program support and then shares this calendar with the Director of Prevention and Intervention to maintain program structure and accountability
  • Offers accessible and timely consultation to the Crossroads Counselors using foundational counseling knowledge and familiarity with the Crossroads program, including the Director of Prevention and Intervention when needed
  • Builds connections with the Crossroads team through regular communication and site visits
  • Monitors compliance with rules and regulations to ensure preservation of grant funding
  • Aides the Director of Prevention and Intervention counseling with Crossroads budget and purchasing in accordance with the Intergovernmental Agreement(IGA)
  • Supports each Crossroads Counselor as they implement their comprehensive Crossroads counseling program to address the academic, career and personal/social needs of every student at their school(s)
  • Endorse and promote ASCA alignment and use of evidence based harm-reduction strategies and curriculum materials
  • Provides direction and support to counselors on maintaining Crossroads service logs and turning in timely, accurate program documentation to the Director of Prevention and Intervention Counseling
  • Assists the Director of Prevention and Intervention Counseling supporting Crossroads Counselors with program documentation and review
  • Supports the Crossroads Counselors in collaborating with their school admin team to develop and implement the Parent Involvement Program (PIP) when there is a controlled substance infraction on campus
  • Researches effective restorative practice programs, strategies and support to make recommendations regarding the implementation of similar programs within the district
  • Stays current on drug trends and substance prevention, intervention and treatment resources
  • Monitors and reports on outcomes of substance prevention and intervention initiatives to guide the strategic direction of the Crossroads program
  • Coordinates reporting of results to promote the delivery of substance prevention and intervention services to all students and to optimize staffing levels in the school
  • Assists in prevention curriculum development, professional development and identifications of interventions to support students
  • Supports the Director of Prevention and Intervention with ensuring timely generation of completion of all Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) deliverables
  • Regularly attends monthly Crossroads team meetings and APS district counseling meetings to keep current on policies, procedures and best practices regarding school counseling programs and issues
Duties. All duties are standard and apply to all Albuquerque Public Schools employees. Duties cannot be changed or altered. Employees are not screened based on duties.
  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities.
  • Previous work as a Crossroads Counselor with demonstrated ability to implement a visible, well-structured program serving students, producing solid data and annual documentation with evidence of positive collaboration with site administrative team
  • Grant Management Experience
  • Desire and ability to balance strong work ethic with healthy boundaries
  • Bilingual
  • Skill in developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff and community members
  • Familiarity with harm reduction framework and experience with delivering youth substance prevention and intervention
  • Desire/readiness to move away from direct student services to work in program development and support
  • Fluent in use of Google Calendar, Docs, Forms and Sheets
  • Proficient time management skills, consistently meeting deadlines, working on multiple projects and follow through
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; comfort in presenting to large groups
  • Flexibility and effective organizational, decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person, online and over the phone
  • Experience facilitating the learning of both youth and adults
REQUIREMENTS: Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Experience.
  • Master's degree in Counseling or School Counseling and valid NMPED 600 School Counseling License, Pre K-12
  • Two years post graduate counseling experience
  • Two years' experience working in a school setting
  • Familiarity with harm reduction framework and experience with delivering youth substance prevention and intervention
  • Desire/readiness to move away from direct student services to work in program development and support
  • Fluent in use of Google Calendar, Docs, Forms and Sheets
  • Proficient time management skills, consistently meeting deadlines, working on multiple projects and follow through
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; comfort in presenting to large groups
  • Flexibility and effective organizational, decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person, online and over the phone
